I was talking in Spanish to an auto mechanic, trying to make some sense of the call There was a gap in the translation, a miscommunication before I realized that I had no car at all I could smell summer loving like couples by the dozen, fornicating right down the hall There was a fan there in my window I had broke my new stereo and I swear I could not hear a sound at all The Muse is a waitress you must flirt and tip her well If you are rude and you are cheap then you'll hit the ground before you know you fell She was waxing resplendent in an emerald pendant, staring up from down there on the street There was a flaw in my evasion, an unequal equation so we wound up wrapped up in between my sheets Then we went to a diner it could not have been finer, we drank coffee, we ate blueberry pie And when the time it came for tipping, waitress laughed and went off skipping and I woke up to find that I had not died, I woke up to find that I was still alive. The Muse is a waitress you must flirt and tip her well If you are rude and you are cheap then you'll hit the ground before you know you fell

I'm Not V.C. 03:47
I had a girl she lived in Saigon She had the brightest smile in Vietnam She sold me out, she did me wrong She sold me out to the Viet Cong I had a girl she wore white silks too We had a secret rendezvous She kissed me sweet, but never for too long And I didn't know she was Viet Cong Hey G.I. don't worry about me I love America and I'm not V.C. I'm not V.C. I had a girl and I forgot the past The future came slow, time went too fast She was undercover for Ho Chi Minh She sold me out and it was a sin I was a paratrooper for the U.S.A. For her I threw it all away Her lips to my ear, I heard the saddest song Before she sold me out to the Viet Cong Sold me out to the Viet Cong Hey G.I. don't worry about me I love America and I'm not V.C. I'm not V.C.

Bloody Palms 04:06
The works fell out of your pocketbook I stared at the ground and I cooked up a look And I threw it in your eyes pretending like I hadn't seen Your eyes like black petunias sighed, your pupils pulled back and so did the time I tried to maintain my sense of responsibility The coffin was there and the air it was dry, your pale skin glowed like the end of the line Like that white, blue light that everybody has got to see And I said please, don't do this to me I decided I could no longer just stand by and let this go down right before my eyes That sooner or later something was gonna start happening You didn't like that too well, you punched me in the eye, you tore up my shirt and you pummeled my mind Told me that everything I've every recognized as enchanted was just by accident I found you two days later slouched on your side, at the foot of your bed, not a note left behind Just the marks on your arm spelling out a tragedy So I hopped on the El and I took me a ride to the edge of the town where all love goes to die I kissed cold steel bells and that was it for me, that was it for me And I said please, don't do this to me

Speaking in tongues, I'm just laughing along demons in my head I try to get around it, I always get confounded, I get obsessive when I ain't got the bread Sometimes I want to shout it, theres no reason I should doubt it, learning lessons at the drop of a veil I'm getting confirmed, I'm just icing the burn, with the sunshine reigning hale You got to do what you can, you're rocking Steely Dan through a busted speaker in the back of a car The car it's your old man's he's in a cover band, they rock bad sneakers over there at the bar I sleep in the light then I go lurk in the night with all the users and the ghouls I try to get inside her but I always get denied her, I flip out and cry heartbreak like a stool She tends to be explosive, she doubles all her doses, burning bridges like a bat out of hell Look who's laughing inside, this sorrow ain't worth the cry with the friend that you'll never tell You got to do what you can, you're rocking Steely Dan through a busted speaker in the back of a car The car it's your old man's he's in a cover band, they rock bad sneakers over there at the bar.

Red Hot Lust 03:36
Red hot lust, red hot self-loathing, turn down the lights and let's remove our clothing I don't know if anything matters, leave me alone or leave my clothes in tatters I've been watching my step, I've been taking my time because your heart is darker than a dead coal mine I don't wanna fall into one of those traps, in too deep and you never make it back I have lost my mind In the nick of time If I was still sane And things had stayed the same Then I might have lost my will to survive Red like rust along the railing, turn down the lights and we can go sailing I don't even know if it's day or its nightime, I don't have a phone so its always the right time Sweet red hot lust, red hot self-loathing, you act smart and I can be your plaything I can act high and you can act sober, we can pretend until we turn it over I have lost my mind In the nick of time If I was still sane And things had stayed the same Then I might have lost my will to survive I might have lost my will to survive

Air Supply 03:13
Here's the refrain, the sacred and the profane Do whatever you're gonna do, because I need you too Kiss it up to God, take him by the hand, if your Mary was a whore and your Pope was a pimp Keep your eye on the air supply and I'll keep one eye out too But if the river runs dry you can testify that you never had a clue Here's the refrain the sacred and the profane Does it make you feel sick? Does it make you feel sane? Got a head full of lies and a heart full of brain When you think about the truth, does it bring an ocean of pain? An ocean of pain You gotta keep your eye on the air supply and I'll keep one eye out too And if the river runs dry you can testify that you never had a clue

Lucky #13 02:19
Hey momma if they're coming to see If they're a looking they're a looking for me Keep your head down and your hat to the side And whatever you may do you must not look them in the eye I am guilty and I tell you the truth I am a liar behind each and every tooth I keep my head down, the hair in my eyes Every tale that I have told has made its way up to the sky Every woman that I hold will make her way on to goodbye When I sit still I hold a gun to my head I got to keep on moving or I'll surely end up dead I keep my guitar not far from my side The day I get to sleep will be the day that I have died The day that I get rich will be the day that I go blind

Toe The Line 03:14
Beauty is a caste, I can see it rolling past A glitter coated tank, with no one left to thank It's treads are made of gold, it ain't bought and it ain't sold And when it passes by, it steals the light out of your eye Grace is like a pit, you fall right into it So naturally immune, to any other tune It sweeps you up like love, and wraps you in a hug And when you climb on out, you're face to face with doubt Luck is like a whore, it gives but takes some more Push it all you can, you're sure to see it end It's sure to treat you nice, its the fire and the ice Once bitten you may cry, but luck is never shy Beauty is a caste, it will knock you on your ass But for those who ride the wave, what could be left to save? The armor's only fleeting, and all beauty has a meeting With the tarnish and the time, while all the rest will toe the line Oh yeah I guess I'll toe the line

You were sweet to me, and you were cruel like only you could be You beat me up, and you put me out Try to stand up but you knock me down We were one, and we were two and now I'm nothing without you you beat me up, and you put me out Try to stand up but you knock me down
